There is a specific shade of turquoise that exists only in Anguilla. Not the Caribbean blue you've seen in photographs; something more luminous, almost impossible to describe to someone who hasn't stood at the edge of Maundays Bay and looked out at it.

The Property
The architecture is Cap Juluca's most recognizable feature, and one of the most distinctive in the Caribbean. White Moorish domes, arched colonnades, and stucco facades that glow gold at sunset. The original design dates to 1988 and was conceived as a fantasy of North African Mediterranean geometry transplanted to the Caribbean. It shouldn't work. It does, completely. The buildings feel organic to the landscape in a way that most resort architecture never achieves, present without being intrusive, striking without being loud.
Belmond's renovation preserved the bones while refining the interiors; bright, airy rooms with Caribbean accents that feel considered rather than decorated. Nothing is overdone. The effortlessness of the design is the design.
Four restaurants, a full-service spa, an infinity pool, and a beach experience that sets the standard for the Caribbean, dedicated attendants, chaise loungers, chilled towels, and sorbet delivered to your side without being asked. The pace here is unhurried by design. There is nothing on Maundays Bay competing for your attention except the water.
Why It’s Here
I went to Cap Juluca on my honeymoon. I say that not to romanticize it but because it's the most accurate way to explain what kind of place this is. It's a hotel that creates the conditions for the kind of trip you remember for the rest of your life.
What I remember most is the feeling of complete removal. Not remoteness in the sense of being hard to reach, but remoteness in the sense of the world genuinely falling away. The design is effortless in the way that only very considered things can be. Nothing shouts. Everything works. And that water, that specific, unrepeatable turquoise, is the first thing I think of when someone asks me about the best beach I've ever seen.

The Rooms
Rooms — 63–73m², the entry point. Three types: Deluxe Beachfront (most secluded, at the western end of the bay) and Premium Beachfront (king bed with living room, private solarium, or rooftop terrace).
Suites — 102–144m², all beachfront with king bed, sitting area, and covered terrace. Four types: Beachfront Junior Suite, Beachfront One Bedroom Suite, Beachfront Two-Bedroom Suite with King, and Beachfront Two-Bedroom Suite with Twin (with kitchenette and solarium — ideal for families).
Suites with Pools — 145–306m², with private freshwater pool and marble bathroom. Two types: Beachfront One Bedroom Plunge Pool Casita (ground floor, furnished patio direct to the bay) and Beachfront One Bedroom Pool Suite (available in 1, 3, and 5-bedroom configurations with full kitchen).
Casitas — 208m², for two couples or a family. Beachfront Plunge Pool Two Bedroom Casita: master king bedroom, second twin bedroom, double tubs, private pool, private kitchen, and direct beach access.
Signature Suites & Villas — the top of the range, named after Moroccan cities. Jonquil Suite (306m², sleeps 5, private jacuzzi and pool), Beachfront Three Bedroom Private Pool Villa (334m², sleeps 7, private plunge pool), and Beachfront Five Bedroom Villa (481m², sleeps 14, private freshwater pool — the right choice for large groups or multigenerational families).
My recommendation: The Beachfront Junior Suite — the sweet spot at Cap Juluca. You get the full beachfront experience, a sitting area, and a covered terrace with ocean views, at a size that feels genuinely spacious without paying for space you won't use. If a private pool is a priority, step up to the Beachfront One Bedroom Plunge Pool Casita.

Honeymooners. Anniversary trips. Anyone who wants the Caribbean at its most beautiful and most private. Couples who want effortless luxury; not a party resort, not a family hotel, but a place that feels made specifically for two people who want to be nowhere else.
The larger villas and casitas also make Cap Juluca a rare hotel that works equally well for families or large groups.
Cap Juluca is not for travelers who need stimulation, activities, or nightlife. It's for those who understand that sometimes the point is simply to be somewhere extraordinary and do very little.

Location: Maundays Bay, West End, Anguilla
Nearest airport: Clayton J. Lloyd International Airport (AXA), 10 minutes from the resort.
Getting there: Two options. The classic route is to fly into St. Maarten (SXM) and take a 20-minute speedboat to Anguilla, followed by a short customs stop and a 10-minute transfer to the hotel. Alternatively, Anguilla now has direct flights from Miami into AXA, with a 10-minute transfer to the resort.
Price range: From approx. $1,200/night
Best time to visit: Anguilla enjoys warm, sunny weather almost year-round. The peak season runs December–April, but the summer months — particularly June through August — offer excellent conditions with fewer crowds and lower rates. Hurricane season runs June–November, though Anguilla is rarely directly affected.
