The Hotel Theory

Most people think of a hotel as a place to return to after the real experiences of a trip. I don't.

We've been told that a successful trip means spending as little time as possible at the hotel. Wake up early. Stay out all day. See more. Do more. Move faster. Somewhere along the way, we started treating hotels as little more than a place to sleep between activities.

This Hotel Theory exists to challenge that idea. Where you stay matters just as much as where you go.

Because if you've chosen the right hotel, enjoying it isn't missing out on the trip. It is part of the trip.

I look for hotels with character. Hotels with soul. Places that feel effortless to inhabit, that have warmth, beauty, and a sense of comfort that makes you want to stay a little longer.

This isn't an exhaustive directory. It's a curated collection of hotels chosen for their character, atmosphere, design, and strong sense of place.

Because the best hotels don't simply support the trip. Sometimes, they become the reason for it.

That is The Hotel Theory.

What you'll find here

The Hotel Theory is not a booking platform and it is not a directory of every hotel worth visiting.

Every property that appears here has passed through a personal filter. Some are hotels I have experienced myself. Others have earned a place on my travel wish list after extensive research. What they share is a quality that is difficult to quantify but impossible to ignore: they have soul.

If a well-known hotel is missing, it is not an oversight. It is a choice. The goal is not completeness. The goal is curation.

You'll also find editorial pieces, curated lists, destination guides, and recommendations organized by travel style, destination, and the kind of trip you're planning. Whether you're traveling solo, as a couple, with children, or in search of something completely off the beaten path, the goal is always the same: to help you find a hotel worth remembering.

Meet the Traveler Behind the Theory

Hi, I'm Natalia.

I'm Peruvian, based in Madrid, and perpetually somewhere in between.

I've traveled solo, with friends, with my family, and now with my two children.

Many people see traveling with children as stressful or simply not worth the effort. I see it differently. Some of my most meaningful travel memories have been made alongside them.

Traveling with children has taught me to slow down, appreciate the moments in between, and find joy in the simple things.

For years, friends and family have come to me for hotel recommendations. I'd happily spend hours researching, comparing options, and narrowing down choices—not because I had to, but because I genuinely enjoyed it.

The Hotel Theory is an extension of those conversations.

A place where I share the hotels that catch my attention, earn a place on my travel wish list, or leave a lasting impression after a stay.

Thank you for being here.

I hope you find a hotel you'll never want to leave.
